Whether you are designing a web site from scratch or repurposing older materials, many of the core issues of web development remain the same. These fundamentals can be distilled to four major groupings: content, design, usability and technology. With the web nearing 20 years old, we should certainly know a thing or two about the essentials of web development. Yet how is it then, that so many web sites are so bad? This session will answer that very question, and help you avoid such an ignoble outcome while implementing or managing your own project.
Samuel Fee is Associate Professor and Chair of Information Technology Leadership at Washington and Jefferson College, a liberal arts college in southwest Pennsylvania. At W&J, Fee offers courses in web development and multimedia design. As a web consultant for the past 15 years, he has helped numerous clients - including several Fortune 500 companies as well as non-profits - develop and redesign web content.
