January 2012
Say “so long” to Lyris listserv and “hello” to Organic Groups! On January 31st we are shutting down the old dysfunctional listserv and setting up all of our members on the new-and=improved Organic Group.
Ellen Naylor, who has been leading her tireless team to make this happen, has this to share:
“Lyris will shut down our listserv on January 31, 2012, sometime after 6 p.m. Pacific Time.
“Lyris will start the last archives dump on January 31, 2012, at 1 p.m. Pacific Time.
“We will have the new system up-and-running as of January 31, 2012, and you will be directed to a URL in a future e-mail in the next few days.
“Mary-Doug is preparing a clean AIIP-L membership roster, so all of your names will be input into the new system. I am unsure exactly how this will work, but I will be made aware before the cutover. My hope is that this will be transparent to you. Our Organic Groups programmer understands the Lyris codes for how you like to access AIIP-L, such as "E-mail," "Digest," "Index," etc.
“My recommendation is that we keep down our AIIP-L traffic on January 31, especially if you are posting on the old Lyris listserv after 1 p.m. Pacific time, as your post will be lost. Before then, you will know how to reach our new URL, where some of us are testing the new system.
“We are going to start with a plain vanilla installation of Organic Groups and then develop it to its fullest potential over time. We are working very hard to get this right for you, and there are many details to work out.
“It will be nice, however, to have the ability to post from any device and not worry about keeping your posts in plain type. You also can insert pictures into your posts. The Organic Groups discussion group will start a new archive, and we will have access to our old archives through our Web site. More on that later.
“I think you will like this new system, but I imagine we'll have a few hiccups along the way. That's the nature of new technology implementation. Please be patient with us.
“I will keep you informed over the next couple of days, and then Mary-Doug Wright, Jane Langeman, Debbie Wynot, or Connie Clem will keep you in the loop, as I have had a death in my Japanese family, where I grew up, and am flying to Tokyo for the funeral this week. These wonderful women have stepped up to the plate and I couldn't do it without this great team, so a big thank you to them.
“And thank you all for being AIIP-L participants!”
