Information Entrepreneurship: Business Practicalities You Must Know - Now and Later
Wednesday, May 2, 2012 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Registration fee: $50.
Planning and starting an information based business requires consideration of many aspects unrelated to the professional expertise we offer.
In a concise session, we cover the waterfront of things a new entrepreneur must think about, with a focus on reality:
- Feasibility and financial requirements
- Practicalities: Expenses, taxes, office support
- Marketing, branding, professional presence
- Proposals, contracts, fees, insurance
- Client relations
- Context: Attractions/Challenges: Why do I want to be on my own? What will be difficult?
The session points out the many potential pitfalls new entrepreneurs may encounter and dishes out serious advice based on decades of experience. If you are starting out your business or it's early days for you, you can't afford to miss this packed session of solid colleague-to-colleague truths.
The session is based on a course the instructors teach at the iSchool Institute at the Faculty of Information, University of Toronto - with rave reviews. It is offered with the Institute's express permission.
